•Laila Tifah (Yogyakarta)
Laila Tifah (b. and based in Yogyakarta) is an artist working mainly with canvas and paper while experimenting with other materials. Her works are deeply personal, as they draw inspiration from her observations of her surroundings from her standpoint as a woman. Her works depict issues relevant to the present day, encompassing landscape change, food politics, the tension in domestic spaces, personal anxiety over humanity, and intimate relationships between humans. She also frequently adopts the space reconstruction strategy, leveraging her educational background, to construct compositions and narratives that link up the ideas of time and human psychological speculation.
•Rosvita Watubo x Caroline Rika (Watublapi & Yogyakarta)
Rosvita Sensiana (b. Maumere, based in Watublapi) is a weaver and traditional community organizer in Watublapi village, Sikka Regency. She founded Sanggar Watubo in 2014. Watubo comes from two words in the Krowe language, watu: rock and bo: breath/life. In accordance with its philosophy, Watubo was founded as a space for weavers who are generally mothers and residents who live every day by cultivating the natural and cultural resources around them. Apart from focusing on developing several types of arts such as ikat weaving, music and traditional dance, together with Watubo, Rosvita is also active in driving social entrepreneurship to strengthen active citizens.
•Caroline Rika Winata (b. Bandung, based in Yogyakarta) grounds her work on Indonesian traditional textiles to which sometimes she adds other techniques sourced from her travels. Her textile work is versatile, allowing her to feature in contemporary art, interior design and fashion shows as well as dance performances. Her practice frequently uses Indonesian idioms in order to address questions of material and popular culture or issues of cultural discrimination relating to her Chinese heritage.
