•Lembâna Artgroecosystem (Madura)

Lembâna Artgroecosystem (founded and based in Sumenep) is an agricultural community art initiative that is created and managed by young people in Sumenep, Madura. This initiative was established to create a knowledge infrastructure through art and to encourage cross-cultural conversations from diverse perspectives. They held a platform where they invited interdisciplinary contemporary artists to present their works and provoke connections with the villagers around Sumenep: Recently they participated in Jogja Fotografis Festival 2023.

•Lucia Hartini (Yogyakarta)

Lucia Hartini (b.Temanggung, based in Yogyakarta) started to pursue her painting endeavor at the Indonesian School of Visual Arts (SSRI) Yogyakarta. In the 1990s, she became one of Indonesia’s female artists with exhibitions held at both national and international levels. Most of her works combine narratives of surrealism, drawing on her childhood imagination of cosmology and the universe, with deep insights into psychoanalysis gained from her life experiences as the background. Her generally surrealist paintings recount nature’s strange phenomena. Using detailed realism techniques, Lucia Hartini portrays the motion of water, clouds, planets, and other objects in twists and swirls that look magnificent.

•M. Irfan (Yogyakarta/Jakarta)

M. Irfan (b. Bukittinggi West Sumatra, based in Yogyakarta) studied metal craft at the Indonesia Institute of Arts (ISI Yogyakarta) and was once a founding member of Kelompok Seni Rupa Jendela (Jendela Art Group). His early paintings, from mid 1990s to mid 2000s, tend to be categorized as either abstract or minimalism. Irfan himself calls that phase of his practice as “painting the essentials.” Not solely limited to painting, he intermittently works with various media, including sculptures, objects, and constructions. Another big body of his work experimented with various painting styles such as photorealism, op art, and cerebral formalism. Over the last few years, Irfan has been known for his highly, meticulously detailed depictions of vehicles and infrastructures.
